Career resources
You’ve finished your degree, but what’s next?
The University Career Center offers programs and events for both current students and recent graduates that can help you figure out where you can go after graduation and work your way through the career development process.
Current students
- Career fairs – The Career Center holds two career fairs each year — one during the fall semester and one during the spring — where you can meet and interview with recruiters about internships, cooperative education and full-time positions with their organizations. During the week prior to each career fair the center offers preparation events, such as résumé workshops and tips on how to dress.
- Cooperative Education Program – Co-op programs allow you to combine classroom learning with paid work experience related to your major. VCU’s co-op programs place students in Richmond and throughout the U.S. with governmental agencies, private industries, small business and nonprofit organizations.
- Career advising and counseling – The Career Center’s career consultants offer advising for specialized assistance with basic job searching and counseling for students struggling with career choices and planning. If you’re looking for assistance making career choices and learning more about your interests, skills and values, schedule an appointment with the career coordinator assigned to your major or department.
- Work-study – VCU’s work-study program allows you to work on campus in an area related to your interests. Use the Career Center’s work-study job search to see what opportunities are available.
- Internships – Through InternWeb, you can look for summer and paid internships, as well as entry-level positions with companies across the country.
- RamsRecruiting – After registering with the Career Center, you can use the RamsRecruiting Web site to search for jobs, submit your résumé and schedule on-campus and mock interviews with employers.
- MonsterTRAK – Use MonsterTRAK to search for internships and entry-level positions in your field of interest in the Richmond area and throughout the U.S.
- InterviewStream Campus – With InterviewStream Campus, you can schedule mock interviews online using a Webcam, or in person at the Career Center. Career experts will walk you through the interview process, provide tips on how to answer common questions and help you reduce filler words, such as “like,” “I mean” and “um.”
