Service-learning

Working on a project on a boat

Do you want to apply your classroom experience in a real-life environment?

In partnership with the Division of Community Engagement and several local and national organizations, the College offers a variety of courses as service-learning opportunities that combine classroom instruction with community-based service to address important community issues.

Students who enroll in service-learning courses may learn about planning, implementing and evaluating health education programs while working in community health settings, such as schools, work sites, hospitals, state and local health departments and nonprofit agencies. If you’re interested in working in criminal justice, you may want to study crime and delinquency within the total systems context, while completing a project involving citizen, community and agency interrelationships.

To learn more about service-learning opportunities at VCU and how to register for courses in your subject area, visit the Division of Community Engagement Web site.
