Graduation worksheets

It is estimated that more than one-third of the graduation applications submitted have one or more problems that could, in some cases, result in students not being permitted to graduate. The following are the most frequent problems encountered in graduation applications:
- Incorrect courses, such as courses not on the approved list, were used to fulfill general education requirements.
- Minor applications were not attached to the graduation application.
- Students in the Extended Teacher Preparation Program lacked the minimum number of credit hours to graduate.
- The foreign language requirement was not completed.
- Student, advisor or department chairperson signatures were missing on the graduation application.
- A waiver of the requirement that the last 30 credits be earned in residence at VCU was not filed or approved.
- For students entering prior to fall 2008, two writing intensive courses were not taken.
- Students did not complete 45 credit hours of upper-level courses.
- Repeated or duplicate courses were counted twice in students’ records resulting in insufficient number of total credit hours earned.
- Transcripts for courses taken at other institutions or study abroad credits have not been received.
To make sure that you meet the requirements for graduation, you should follow the official curriculum guidelines specified by your major. Review the appropriate graduation worksheet for your major for complete guidelines and consult with your advisor as necessary. Additional guidelines and requirements are also available from the VCU Bulletins.
