Help in class

Students working at a tableDo you need a little extra help finessing a paper? Or do you want to meet with other students to review notes from class? The University offers a variety of resources, including tutoring, supplemental instruction, study groups and a writing center, to help you be successful in the classroom.

The University College’s Campus Learning Center provides quality academic support to all undergraduates, including:

  • Tutoring – Whether by appointment or on a first-come, first-served drop-in basis, you receive assistance from upperclassmen who have earned an A or B in the classes they tutor.
  • Supplemental Instruction – A peer-assisted study session, Supplemental Instruction was designed to assist students in courses that have proven to be difficult. Leaders are students who have previously taken the course and who attend the current class, take notes and read the text.
  • Study groups – The CLC assists students in forming study groups and developing an agenda and methods for sharing notes and materials.

In addition, the UC’s Writing Center offers free learning and writing support for the entire VCU community, whether you’re just getting started with an idea or want someone to read your latest draft.
