At
the current time, we have two tenured anthropologists on
the faculty -- an Africanist (Dr.
Christopher Brooks) and a Latin Americanist (Dr.
Christina Turner). Dr.
Amber Bennett teaches the primary archaeology courses
and is developing a Civil War site at VCU's Rice Center
at the Rice Plantation. When availiable, Dr.
Anders Linde-Laursen teaches many specialized courses
such as the formation of national identity and globalization.
Dr. Elisabeth Kuhn is our linguist, who teaches through
the English department. Dr.
Avrum Shriar teaches cross-listed anthropology/geography
courses in the focus areas of human development and Latin
America. A course in Forensic Anthropology is offered in
the Forensic Science program of the College on a rotating
basis. We are also lucky to have Dr.
Walter Witschey, the Director of the Science
Museum of Virginia and noted Mayan archeologist, as
a contributing professor for special topics courses. The
anthropology component of the department also augments the
student course offerings through cross-disciplinary courses
(linguistics, international studies, African-American studies,
and geography) and the creative use of adjunct professors
such as Dr. Marsha
Watkins (economic anthropology), Dane
Magoon (bioarchaeology), and Dr.
Inuka Gakhar Midha (health, growth and development). |
