On May 16, the creation of two new schools —
the School of Government and Public Affairs and the School
of World Studies — were approved and added to the College
of Humanities and Sciences.
The goals of these schools are to encourage international
learning and enhance the College's global curriculum. The
programs in each school will have an international focus
and will work closely with programs within the College and
other university programs including, African American studies,
women's studies, English and history.
The School of World Studies consists of the former Department
of Foreign Languages, the International Studies Program,
as well as Anthropology and Religious Studies. While the
School of Government and Public Affairs absorbed the former
departments of Criminal Justice, Political Science and Public
Administration, and Urban Studies and Planning.
Anthropology majors will be able to continue their degree
in the current fashion. A new stand alone major in anthropology
will be developed by September.
