| Before
completing the BIS application and curriculum plan, make sure you have met
with a BIS adviser to discuss your educational goals and the admission process.
You must also submit your supplemental materials (goal statement, transcripts
and change of major form) to the BIS program office. Application Download the necessary application forms, which are in fillable word and pdf formats. When you have completed the application, save it and send as an attachment to bis@vcu.edu. (We recommend that you print a blank copy to complete as a draft before submitting your application.) Use the application and curriculum plan checklist, and follow the Curriculum Plan Development Guidelines below to ensure you have completed the application correctly. Incomplete applications will not be processed and sent back to the student for revision.
Curriculum Plan Development Guidelines Goal: To develop a curriculum plan according to accepted procedures to present to the BIS admissions committee for consideration. Materials needed: To prepare the plan, you will need your BIS evaluation of transfer credit, the current VCU Undergraduate Bulletin, the Application and Curriculum Plan Checklist, and a copy of the BIS application. Directions: Complete cover page. If a section does not apply to you, put n/a in the blank. The curriculum plan is divided into three categories: Focus Area, General Education and Electives. Each of these sections is divided into “transfer” courses and “planned” courses. Using your BIS transfer evaluation, complete the transfer credit for each category. NOTE: Transfer credit is credit earned prior to being admitted to the BIS program. This includes any VCU credit earned, in addition to credit earned at other institutions, as well as CLEP, technical or military credits. Courses should be written in this format: course number, title and institution where taken. Example: ENGL 101 Composition & Rhetoric, VCU (Abbreviations for course titles are acceptable.) After all transfer credit has been entered, use the Undergraduate Bulletin to select courses to place into the planned section for each category you need to complete. Consult your checklist to ensure the correct number of credits is entered, as well as the proper level (whether upper- or lower-level credit is needed). Enter in format noted above. Once all course work has been written in the appropriate places, refer to your checklist to ensure all degree requirements have been met. Calculate the credits and enter totals in each blank provided. Questions? Call 828-8420 or e-mail bis@vcu.edu. |
