Dr. Weiping Wu’s scholarship and teaching works to link VCU and our region to the present and future of China. Wu is a faculty member in the School of World Studies and the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. Coinciding with the second China-America Festival of Film and Culture in Richmond and in collaboration with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Wu recently organized a workshop for more than 20 Virginia teachers interested in enhancing their understanding of China’s history and current development. Speakers included two other VCU professors — Dr. John Herman of the Department of History and Dr. Anders Linde-Laursen of the School of World Studies — in addition to Dr. Yong Jiang of Fudan University and Dr. Harry Harding of George Washington University. These sessions were offered with support from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and the National Committee on United States-China Relations. With the success of this new program, similar workshops are likely to be offered in the coming years.
