Virginia Commonwealth University will celebrate the 90th birthday of Nobel Prize winner and VCU professor John B. Fenn with a symposium in his honor on Friday, June 15, 2007. Invited speakers from around the country will come to VCU’s University Student Commons to pay tribute to Fenn, a winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in chemistry.

Registraion is extended until Tuesday, June 12.

 

For counting purposes, all participants must register by June 12. The symposium is free and open to the public. Only participants attending the banquet must pay a fee.

 

About Dr. Fenn

Dr. John B. Fenn received a B.A. in chemistry from Berea College in 1937 and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Yale in 1940. He then spent 12 years working in the industry, followed by 10 years at Princeton University where he administered a research project for the U.S. Navy and then became a professor of aerospace sciences. Fenn joined the Yale faculty in 1967 to teach and conduct research until his retirement in 1987. He stayed at Yale after being named emeritus and held that post until he became a research professor at VCU in 1994.

 

Fenn was awarded the 2002 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work on electrospray mass spectrometry which has revolutionized the development of new pharmaceuticals and promises to advance disease diagnosis.
