Facilities Mass Spectrometry Resource Center The Department of Chemistry has recently developed a university-wide Mass Spectrometry Resource Center. The MSRC is located in the Education Wing of Oliver Hall aind is supported by the university, the Mary E. Kapp Fund and the National Science Foundation. This state-of-the-art facility now supports VCU research scientists in areas including chemistry, forensics, proteomics, cancer research and life sciences. Department of Chemistry Instrumentation Facility The departmental instrumentation facility houses several modern instruments for use by upper-level undergraduates and graduate students. Instruments in the facility include liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, ion chromatography, inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, and infrared, Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy. The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Center The NMR Center is located in the Temple building and has two Varian superconducting Fourier-transform NMR spectrometers — an Inova-400 and a Mercury-300. Three high-performance UNIX-based graphics workstations are available for instrument control and data analysis. The NMR facility serves a large community of users within the Department of Chemistry, other on-campus departments and industrial companies. The spectrometers operate on a 24/7 basis, with fully open access. After preliminary operational training, users can perform experiments on their own.
