Opportunities for alumni
Graduates of the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences have the opportunity to continue their exploration and build upon their foundation of knowledge through a number of learning and travel opportunities abroad.
The VCU Alumni Association’s Alumni Travel program, through partnerships with Alumni Holidays International and Gohagan and Company, offers trips ranging from the Italian Riviera and the Swiss Alps to a cruise of the Panama Canal or a tour of China and the Yangtze River. To sign up for any of the Alumni Travel programs, visit the VCU Alumni Association Web site and find out how you can become a member.
The university’s Commonwealth Society also offers trips, college-level courses and other unique learning opportunities for adults — without papers, tests or grades. As a member, you’ll have access to courses such as “Understanding the Qur’an,” “Winter/Spring Bird Migrations” and “A Cat, Popcorn and Quantum Theology,” as well as the society’s Book Group, Brown-bag Lunch Series and travel opportunities.
If you’re interested in an international experience while staying close to home, the Office of International Education offers several opportunities for American volunteers to befriend international students studying at VCU. Through the English Language Program, the office organizes local conversation partners to meet and practice English with international students. In addition, the office looks for host families to help students acclimate to their new environment for eight to 16 weeks. ELP students can also request to be connected with a family in the Richmond community, who host the student once a month for a fun activity.
