The College of Humanities and Sciences is committed to a lifetime of learning and exploration. As a member of the Richmond community, you have access to a variety of programs designed to better understand the world we live in.

The Commonwealth Society of VCU welcomes local adults to participate in trips, college-level courses and other unique learning opportunities — without papers, tests or grades. As a member, you’ll have access to courses such as “Understanding the Qur’an,” “Winter/Spring Bird Migrations” and “A Cat, Popcorn and Quantum Theology,” as well as the society’s Book Group, Brown-bag Lunch Series and travel opportunities.

If you’re interested in an international experience without leaving your backyard, the Office of International Education is always in need of American volunteers to befriend international students studying at VCU. Through the English Language Program, the office organizes local conversation partners to meet and practice English with international students. In addition, the office looks for host families to help students acclimate to their new environment for eight to 16 weeks. ELP students can also request to be connected with a family in the Richmond community, who host the student once a month for a fun activity.
