Graduate Writers Association

All graduate students in the Department of English at Virginia Commonwealth University belong to the Graduate Writers Association (GWA).

The GWA sponsors a monthly reading series, The Moveable Feast, providing the venue both for public readings by first– and second-year MFA students and for thesis readings by MFA students in their final year of study. It also sponsors Emerging Writers, a gala event held once a semester and featuring fiction and poetry readings by graduate students in both programs, and co-sponsors the Visiting Writers Series.

Finally, the GWA seeks opportunities for students to act as mentors to other students, to conduct one-day writing workshops in local schools, and, on occasion, to teach writing classes in area high schools.
