Blackbird: an online journal of literature and the arts joins individuals from its publishing partners—the Department of English at Virginia Commonwealth University and New Virginia Review, Inc.—with members of the Richmond, Virginia, and Doha, Qatar communities.

To the best of our knowledge, this publication is the only venture at VCU that joins together local and international faculty editors, undergraduate, MA ,MFA and PhD students, alumni and community volunteers, and a regional non-profit.

The journal's advisors include faculty members of the nationally ranked VCU School of the Arts and curators from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Visual Arts Center, and the Reynolds Gallery.

Named by storySouth as "best online publication" for 2007, Blackbird continues to provide a rich experience in online publishing to Department of English and MATX volunteers, graduate assistants, and interns.
