The Department of English at Virginia Commonwealth University houses the editorial office for Victorians Institute Journal, an annual scholarly publication devoted to Victorian literature and culture, edited by David Latané and Associate Editor Elisabeth Gruner (University of Richmond).

VIJ began publishing in 1972, and in addition to scholarly essays it publishes reviews and texts edited from the manuscript archives, including previously unpublished writings by Swinburne, Ruskin, Pater, and others.
