New fellowship and scholarships
The College of Humanities and Sciences extends its appreciation to all of the alumni, faculty, staff, students, donors and friends who have contributed to our fellowships and scholarships. We are extremely pleased to share with you these newly established fellowship and scholarships:
Volkmar Risch Memorial Scholarship
Volkmar Risch, a German instructor at VCU since 1986, lost a year long battle with cancer. To perpetuate his legacy, friends and colleagues established the Volkmar Risch Memorial Scholarship in the School of World Studies.
James V. Quagliano Fellowship in Chemistry
The James V. Quagliano Fellowship in Chemistry is established in his memory by his family. Quagliano was the husband of Dr. Lidia M. Vallarino Quagliano, professor in the VCU Department of Chemistry.
The Elizabeth A. Fries Scholarship in Psychology
The Elizabeth A. Fries Scholarship in Psychology is established in her memory by family, friends, colleagues and students. Fries was an associate professor in the VCU Department of Psychology and co-director of cancer control research for the VCU Massey Cancer Center. The scholarship will support graduate students in psychology who are pursuing cancer control research.
Meadows L. Phillips and Thomas Weatherford Veterans Scholarship
David Phillips and his wife, Joyce, established an endowment fund in memory of David’s father, Meadows L. Phillips and in honor of his cousin, Thomas H. Weatherford. The scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student who has been honorably discharged from one of the U.S. armed services. David Phillips is a graduate of VCU who earned a B.S. in Psychology in 1976 and an M.B.A. from the School of Business in 1982.
Additional gifts to these funds are encouraged and can be made at any time. For information on establishing a new scholarship, contact Lois Badey, director of development for the College of Humanities and Sciences.
The power of giving
Great things happen with your gift to VCU. Private support from alumni is vital to maintaining the academic
excellence and dynamic momentum that have become hallmarks of VCU. That is why alumni gifts to the College are so important. For more information on giving opportunities, contact Lois Badey, director of development,
at (804) 827-0856 or labadey@vcu.edu. To make a gift online, visit the VCU Foundation Web site
To update your personal information or for corrections or comments on these features, contact Michael Andrews, alumni relations and communications coordinator, at andrewsmp@vcu.edu.
