Thelma S. Biddle Scholarship is named for an assistant professor who served in the department from the 1960s until the 1980s. The scholarship is awarded to an advanced students who plans to teach.

W.E.B. DuBois Award identifies and encourages a promising African American undergraduate to pursue graduate work in history. This award is presented as part of the "Black History in the Making" celebration sponsored by the Department of African American Studies. (Student receives a copy of DuBois' 1903 classic The Souls of Black Folks and another book prize.)

Daniel (Dan) P. Jordan, Jr.Scholarship is named for Dr. Jordan, who taught in the History Department at VCU from 1969-1984. James Tice Moore Scholarship in History for Teachers. This merit based-scholarship honors the distinguished career of Dr. James T. Moore. Dr. Moore taught in the VCU History Department for over three decades, where he achieved a notable reputation as a teacher/scholar and served as Department Chair. This scholarship is awarded to a teacher currently enrolled in or applying to the VCU History MA Program.
