Education Abroad
2003-2004 Internship

Would you like a chance to share your enthusiasm for international education while gaining valuable career experience?  This could be the internship for you!

Open to:

  • Full time VCU students in good academic standing

  • Must have studied abroad for a summer, semester or full year

  • Rising junior or senior

Requirements:

  • Complete at least 150 service hours over the course of the semester (16 weeks); a maximum of 20 hours a week is allowed

  • Work hours may be flexible and could include evening and weekend events

  • Option to continue into Spring may be available

  • Internship is paid as a student worker

Duties:

Peer Advising

The intern will be responsible for the initial introduction of study abroad to students investigating the option for the first time.  In order to do this successfully they must:

  • Become familiar with study abroad process including search procedures and registration procedures

  • Understand the VCU Summer Study Abroad, University Wide Exchanges, ISEP and Independent Program options including basic information on contact information, housing options, admissions requirements and deadlines, application procedures and academic offerings

  • Discuss issues of culture shock and adjustment to new systems of learning and living

  • Help maintain the study abroad library and computer databases

  • Work directly with the Director of VCU Education Abroad in presenting Pre-Departure Orientations, attending VCU Open Houses, making classroom presentations and other program promotions

Information Sessions

  • The intern will be responsible for 4 30-45 minute “Information Sessions” per week.  This schedule will be set and will be posted on the website.

  • The intern will be responsible for organizing a bi-weekly “Featured Program” article to be posted on the website which will include an interview with a past participant.
