Dabney Professorship – 2001
From 1960 until his retirement in 1997, Beverly Orndorff covered science and medical news for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, writing about such major events as the earliest organ transplants and the Apollo moon missions. He has received awards from both journalism and science organizations. In 1998 the Science Museum of Virginia established an award in his name for exceptional service to public understanding of science. He was inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame in 2000.
Orndorff offered “Science and Medical Reporting” as the Dabney Professor. Students learned how to report on developments in the increasingly important and complex areas of medicine, science and technology from one of the field’s top science and medical writers.
