Student Handbook

Welcome to the School of Mass Communications at Virginia Commonwealth University. As a student, you must now face the real or imagined perils of college life: advising, registration and graduation requirements.

The handbook is designed to answer most of your questions about the Mass Communications (MASC) program. As your guide to the program specific to your year of enrollment, it is meant to explain and clarify the procedures and practices of the VCU School of Mass Communications. The VCU Undergraduate Bulletin is the official source for the university’s academic regulations and degree requirements.

You should get a copy of the VCU Undergraduate Bulletin for the year in which you entered VCU. Using the bulletin, which also is available online, and this handbook, you should be able to understand and master these procedures and requirements and successfully complete your degree with a minimum of problems. Both the handbook and bulletin in effect when you enter the school are the ones to use for your required curriculum for graduation.

Your faculty adviser is available to help you with curriculum planning and requirements. You are strongly encouraged to consult with your adviser at least once a semester. Ultimately, you are responsible for meeting all of the requirements and staying informed about all of the procedures of the school and the university.

You may download your student handbook in Adobe Acrobat format below. BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE APPROPRIATE HANDBOOK FOR THE YEAR YOU ENTERED VCU; curricular requirements are specific to the year you entered VCU as a student.
