Department of Philosophy


Minors

The Department offers the following minors:

Philosophy: 18 PHIL credits, including
(1) either PHIL 103 or PHIL 104 and
(2) 9 hours of upper-level philosophy courses. Note that many upper-level philosophy courses have as prerequisites 9 credits in philosophy, including Logic (PHIL 222) and a lower-level ethics course (from among PHIL 211/212/213/214), so begin by taking the prerequisites for the upper-level philosophy courses that interest you.

Philosophy of Law: 18 credits, including
(1) One course from PHIL 201 Critical Thinking About Moral Problems, PHIL 211 History of Ethics, PHIL 212 Ethics and Applications, and PHIL 213 Ethics and Health Care.
(2) Three upper-level philosophy courses: PHIL 320 Philosophy of Law, PHIL 327 Ethical Theory, and PHIL 335 Social and Political Philosophy. Note that these courses have as prerequisites PHIL 222 Logic, as well as the ethics requirement listed above.
(3) Two of the following courses: HIST 369, 370 American Constitutional and Legal Development, POLI 314 U.S. Constitutional Law and POLI 341, 342 History of Political Thought.
