Faculty Positions in Experimental and Theoretical Condensed Matter/Nanoscience

As part of an expansion effort, the Department of Physics at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for up to three tenure-track faculty positions to begin August 2008 or earlier (contingent on funding). Appointments will be considered at both the junior and senior level. We seek experimentalists and theorists with an interdisciplinary orientation to complement and expand the department’s expertise in condensed matter physics and nanoscience (see www.has.vcu.edu/phy/). Research areas of particular interest include atomic clusters, cluster-assembled materials, nanostructures, semiconductor defects and surfaces/interfaces, spintronic materials, hydrogen storage, biophysics, and biomaterials. Preference will be given to candidates working in the areas of nanoscience and biomaterials. The department offers an M.S. degree in Physics, a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics in collaboration with the department of Chemistry, and a Ph.D. in Medical Physics in collaboration with the departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related discipline and at least two years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates will be expected to teach physics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct a vigorous research program.
