Clinical Staff

The clinical staff at CPSD changes on a regular basis. Each semester, approximately 30-35 second- and third-year doctoral students from the clinical and counseling psychology programs are on-staff as student clinicians as part of their practicum training requirements. Clinical psychology students are typically placed at CPSD for one to two years, while the counseling psychology students are typically at CPSD for one year. Graduate students are supervised by the Department of Psychology faculty members who are licensed clinical psychologists in Virginia. Each semester, four to six faculty members teach practicum and are responsible for supervising student clinicians at CPSD. Changes in supervisors can occur each semester. Most clinical services are provided by graduate students under the supervision of licensed faculty, although some faculty members provide direct client-care services at CPSD.
