The Center for Psychological Services and Development at Virginia
Commonwealth University was developed in 1984 as a training facility
for advanced doctoral candidates in the Department of Psychology,
and as a site for the development of innovative training and supervision
models by departmental faculty.
Underlying philosophy and mission:
• The CPSD serves to link the university with its urban community
by providing psychological services at moderate costs to adults,
children and families residing in the greater Richmond community
and training opportunities for local professionals. Such services
promote a spirit of partnership between the university and the community,
and are consistent with the comprehensive mission of the university.
• The CPSD also serves as an arena in which faculty members
can develop and institute integrative models of training, research
and service.
• The CPSD serves as a practical component to graduate training
program, bridging the gap between theoretical content of course
work, research, and psychological and consultative practice.
• The CPSD adheres to the American Psychological Association’s
Standards of Providers of Psychological Services, ethical guidelines
and codes of conduct.
