Research interests

My primary research program focuses on interpersonal factors in adjustment to negative life events. I am particularly interested in how social support and unsupportive responses from other people influence the adjustment process among individuals faced with a serious health stressor, such as cancer. In addition to examining how interpersonal factors affect psychological adjustment (distress and well-being) and health-related quality of life, I also am interested in understanding the process of posttraumatic growth. Secondary research interests include the psychology of women, and the training and professional development of psychologists.
