Research interests
My main research focus has been understanding and facilitating the psychological adaptation of older adults to chronic medical illness and disability. This work has covered several areas: examining psychological adjustment to amputation, heart transplant and stroke; designing and testing coping enhancement and wellness interventions for older medical patients; and, more recently, testing home and classroom cognitive-behavioral treatments for older adults with chronic disease and insomnia (now termed “comorbid insomnia”). Clinical interests include behavioral medicine, rehabilitation psychology, clinical geropsychology, and general outpatient psychotherapy.
