Undergraduate override policy

The Department of Psychology keeps a wait list for PSYC 214 and 317, core courses in the major. Students unable to register for one of these courses should e-mail psyugrad@vcu with the following information:

  • all sections of the course that would fit into their schedule (in order of preference)
  • evidence of pre-requisites fulfilled (STAT 210 with a “C” or above for PSYC 214 and PSYC 214 with a “C” or above for PSYC 317)
  • VCU e-mail address and cell phone number

Students on the PSYC 214 or 317 wait list are encouraged to check e-services regularly to see if they can add the course, and if they are able to do so, to let us know so we can remove them from the wait list. The wait list is reviewed a week prior to the beginning of the semester, and students are notified by VCU e-mail at that time if there is an override available for the course.

Overrides for PSYC 492 and 494 are given upon completion of the approval form (available at 806 W. Franklin Street, Room 107).

The Department does not keep a wait list for other Psychology undergraduate courses. Department of Psychology classes are usually set to capacity. Students are encouraged to check e-services regularly to see if they can add the course; we expect some add/drop activity prior to the semester's beginning.
