Athlete code of ethics

As a student-athlete at Virginia Commonwealth University, you have the opportunity to develop your academic, athletic and personal abilities in a community environment. In addition, athletics gives you an opportunity to travel, represent your institution and learn the importance of teamwork. Representing your team and the university requires a commitment to certain ethical guidelines and behaviors. Such ethics include but are not limited to:

Value one's personal integrity.

2.

Respect different points of view.

3.

Strive for the highest degree of excellence.

4.

Abide by the spirit of the rules.

5.

Treat all others with respect and courtesy.

6.

Respect and accept the decisions of the coach.

7.

Exhibit dignity in manner and dress when representing one's institution at all times.

8.

Respect the accomplishments of teammates.

9.

Exert maximum efforts in academics, practice and competition.

Coaches' jurisdiction and team rules
The coach is responsible for the total conduct of his/her sport program within limits of authority defined by the:

1.

philosophy and goals of the Athletic Department,

2.

university and Athletic Department policies and procedures, and

3.

rules and regulations of the Colonial Athletic Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
