Faculty

Department of Sociology:

Diana Scully, Ph.D. , Professor of Sociology and Director of Women's Studies, teaches Sociology of Women, which serves as an elective option. She also teaches one of the required courses, Theorizing Gender Violence .

Gay Cutchin, M.S., Coordinator of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Services at VCU and adjunct instructor in the Department of Sociology, co-teaches Sexual and Domestic Violence in Social Context , one of the required courses. She also directs the required internship.

Sarah Jane Brubaker, Ph.D ., Assistant Professor of Sociology and Associate Graduate Director, Department of Sociology, co-teaches Sexual and Domestic Violence in Social Context , one of the required courses.

Angela Taylor, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Sociology, teaches Advanced Methods for Social Research, the required research course.

Diane Abato, J.D., Deputy Commonwealth 's Attorney for the City of Richmond, teaches Battered Women in the Criminal Justice System , an elective option. She is in charge of the prosecution of crimes against women and children, supervises and teaches other attorneys to prosecute such cases (including domestic violence homicides and assaults, sex crimes and child abuse), and supervises the attorneys in juvenile court.

Nancy Ross, Ph.D., Director, Department of Juvenile Justice Services for the City of Richmond , teaches Application of the Policy Process to Issues of Violence , an elective option. Dr. Ross's Ph.D. is from VCU in Public Administration. She has an MSW from the University of Chicago and a BA in American Studies from Vassar College.

David Bromley, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology and Associate Director of
Graduate Studies, teaches Seminar in the Sociology of Deviant Behavior,
which serves as an elective option.

Aleta Meyer, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology and Co-Director of the Center for the Study and Prevention of Youth Violence, teaches Epidemology of Intentional Injury, a course offered through Preventive Medicine and Community Health, which serves as an elective option.
