Biographical Sketch

Lyndsi Hicks graduated from VCU in 2000 with an M.S. degree in sociology. Her participatory action research project, conducted as a part of this program, led to her thesis titled, "Understanding the Homeward Process: Framing Homelessness in a Multi-Organizational Environment." An adaptation of this work was later published in Social Problems (D. Croteau & Hicks, L. [2003]. Coalition Framing and the Challenge of a Consonant Frame Pyramid: The Case of a Collaborative Response to Homelessness. Social Problems: Vol. 50, No. 2: 251-272). Lyndsi's professional experience has included survey research for Media General. Of particular note is her work on public opinion polls including Campaign 2000 (the presidential/senatorial political polls).

She is currently employed with the United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg (www.yourunitedway.org) as Director for the Center for Research & Evaluation at United Way she has worked on many research and community projects including:

In July 2004, she joined the Department of Sociology as Associate Director of Research for the Social Research Group (web site under construction). Her goal is to effectively link community organizations with the skills and resources of the Department of Sociology.
