Alison Baski, PhD

Baski is associate professor and chair of the Physics Department, with a joint appointment in the School of Engineering, at VCU. Dr Baski came to VCU ten years ago from the US Naval Research Laboratory. Her PhD, from Stanford, is in applied physics, and her BS from University of Colorado at Boulder was in engineering physics. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in physics and supervises masters and PhD students. She directs and participates in several community outreach programs on science education, including programs for primary school teachers and children. She is a member of conference organizing committee for: Intl. Conf. on Theory of Atomic and Molecular Clusters (2007), ISCANA conference in Richmond (2003), III-nitride Workshop in Richmond (2002); and has served on National Science Foundation review panels for NIRT (2005), CCLI (2004) and CAREER (2001); and as referee for NSF proposals and professional journals (Physical Review B, Surface Science, J. Vacuum Science and Technology, Nanotechnology, Thin Solid Films). Dr Baski has been PI or co-PI on several national grants including a current 3-year Air Force Office of Scientific Research grant for over $1million. She has published over 75 articles and contributed to over 130 presentations.
