Anthony Ellis, MA

Anthony Ellis, Chair of the Philosophy Department at VCU, received his BD and MA degrees from London University and was Chair of the Moral Philosophy Department at St Andrews University, Scotland, before coming to Richmond. He has published articles in a number of areas of philosophy, received a Fulbright travel award, and was awarded a University Fellowship at the University of Wollongong. In 1994 he co-founded the VCU Institute for Ethics and Public Policy. He is a co-director of the “Science, Reason and Faith” speaker series at VCU this year. His scholarship and teaching focuses mostly on constitutional law and philosophy, and he is currently developing a workshop at VCU on “Drugs and Society” that will explore the moral and medical implications of substance addiction.
