Welcome
Robert Holsworth

Welcome to the College of Humanities and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University. I encourage you to explore the many programs, majors and minors that are available to our students. The College offers many exciting academic choices for you to consider in planning your intellectual development and future career path.

This is a great time to be a student at VCU. Over the past decade, we have seen tremendous growth and trajectory within the College and the University. With an enrollment of 14,000 students, the College of Humanities and Sciences forms the heart of VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Our unique location blends the urban bustle of Richmond with historical architecture and a Virginia heritage that dates back to colonial times. This dynamic setting affords our students the best possible educational experience.

As an open-access, broad-mission metropolitan campus, we offer a wide range of graduate programs and undergraduate majors and minors that will prepare you well for your aspirations and professional goals. We want students to indulge in their curiosity, to pioneer the frontiers of enquiry and to stretch their imagination to new horizons. Our departments, centers and institutes provide a wealth of programs and courses developed by some of the world’s leading researchers and scholars.

The College of Humanities and Sciences is comprised of fifteen departments and three schools that include the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, the School of Mass Communications, and the School of World Studies. There are opportunities for undergraduate and graduate research, service learning through community partnerships and alumni and professional networking. We believe this breadth of curriculum, enrichment programs and diversity within the College effectively develops our students for leadership in society, their future careers and, ultimately, a more fulfilling life.

At VCU, our students enjoy a supportive educational environment. For more than forty years, the College of Humanities and Sciences has evolved to meet the changing needs of those who seek excellence in both undergraduate and graduate programs. We hope you will find VCU to be the right choice for discovering life’s possibilities.

I invite you to linger awhile and come back often and, most especially, to contact us so that we can answer your questions and offer additional information.

Sincerely,
sig
