Why Study IsiZulu?

  • Zulu is the language of over 10 million South Africans.
  • Zulu is one of South Africa's eleven official languages.
  • Zulu has a rich tradition of poetry and music.
  • Zulu is written with the Roman alphabet, so it is easy to begin speaking right away.
  • Zulu is also spoken in Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.
  • VCU's new partnership with University of KwaZulu-Natal, "The Premier University of
    African Scholarship"
    , will allow VCU students to further study and explore Zulu in
    Durban, South Africa.
