102 Course Content:

The following topics are presented in 102, chapters 6 - 10:

  • Food: restaurants, types of food, describing foods, meals, shopping
  • Health: health care, the body, illnesses
  • City and country life: daily chores, money and banking, the post office
  • Travel and tourism
  • Cinema and media

 102 Course Objectives:

  • Understand classroom instructions from professor
  • Carry on a short conversation (2-6 minutes) about any of the topics presented in French 101-102
  • Understand brief conversations (2-6 minutes), with some repetition, about familiar topics from French 101-102
  • Read brief texts (1 page) about familiar topics from French 101-102
  • Write brief compositions (1 page) about familiar topics from French 101-102, with the help of a dictionary

102 Course Expectations:

In order to meet these goals, students must:

  • Recognize all and master most of the vocabulary in chapters 6-10 of Points de départ (all the verb lists are considered active vocabulary as well)
  • Understand and recognize all the grammatical structures from chapters 6-10
  • Master usage and production of the following grammatical concepts:

    Imperfect tense, use of imperfect v. passé composé
    Direct, indirect, double pronouns, y and en, placements and agreement
    Future Tense
    Conditional mood
    Relative pronouns
    Several basic uses of the subjunctive mood
