201 Course Content:

Required text: Graded German Reader

The following topics are presented in 201:

  • Current issues such as media, society, politics, environment
  • Short texts such as anecdotes, tall tales, fairy tales

 201 Course Objectives:

  • Carry on a conversation (3-8 minutes) about familiar topics from German 101-201
  • Understand brief conversations (3-8 minutes), with some repetition, about familiar topics from German 101-201
  • Read selected short literary texts, with the help of a dictionary
  • Write brief compositions (1-2 pages) about familiar topics from German 101-201 and selected literary texts, with the help of a dictionary
  • Be able to understand anecdotes read and short presentations given in German

201 Course Expectations:

In order to meet these goals, students must:

  • Understand and recognize all the grammatical concepts from German 101 and 102
  • Master usage and production of the following structures:

    Infinitive clauses (um zu, ohne zu,…)
    Indirect discourse (reported speech) using subjunctive (Er sagte, er habe kein Geld)
    Passive voice (Das Haus wird gebaut)
