Course Description: German 202

202 Course Content:

Required text: Der Weg zum Lesen

The following topics are presented in 202:

  • Short stories by prominent 20 th-century German authors
  • Vocabulary from the stories
  • Class discussions of stories
  • Study of grammatical structures used in the stories

202 Course Objectives:

  • Carry on a conversation (3-10 minutes) about familiar topics from German 101-202
  • Understand brief conversations (5-10 minutes), with some repetition, about familiar topics from German 101-202
  • Read literary selections (5-15 pages) about unfamiliar topics, with some guidance and the help of a dictionary
  • Write brief compositions (1-2 pages) about familiar topics from German 101-202, with the help of a dictionary
  • Think and write analytically in German about texts
  • Be able to give a short presentation in German

202 Course Expectations:

In order to meet these goals, students must:

  • Be able to read with good comprehension the short stories
  • Recognize all and master most of the vocabulary from stories
  • Write (and re-write) several essays (Aufsätze)
  • Give a brief presentation in German
