102 Course Content:
Required text:Vistas 3 rd ed, Blanco and Donley. Boston: Vistas Higher Learning, 2008
The following topics are presented in 102:
- Daily Routines: personal hygiene and other daily routines, telling time
- Food: types of food, describing foods, meals
- Festivities: parties, celebrations, personal relationships
- Doctor’s office: health care, the body, medical conditions
- Technology: home electronics, computers, automobiles
- The Home: parts of the house, household chores, table settings
102 Course Objectives:
- Understand classroom instructions from professor
- Carry on a short conversation (2-6 minutes) about any of the topics presented in Spanish 101-102
- Understand brief conversations (2-6 minutes), with some repetition, about familiar topics from Spanish 101-102
- Read brief texts (1 page) about familiar topics from Spanish 101-102
- Write brief compositions (1 page) about familiar topics from Spanish 101-102, with the help of a dictionary
102 Course Expectations:
In order to meet the course objectives, students must:
- Recognize all and master most of the vocabulary in chapters 7-12 of Vistas (all the verb lists are considered active vocabulary as well)
- Understand and recognize all the grammatical structures from chapters 7-12
- Master usage and production of the following grammatical concepts:
Reflexive verbs Gustar and verbs like gustar
Object pronouns
Formation of the preterit tense: regular, stem-changing, and irregular verbs
Comparisons and superlatives
Formation of the imperfect tense
Basic differences between uses of preterit and imperfect tenses
Basic differences between uses of por and para
