Ciao! I am Bernardo Piciche, Coordinator of the Italian Program at VCU (Ital@VCU). The faculty and I welcome you. The Italian Studies Program is a growing reality at VCU. We offer a new minor, and the increasing popularity among students may eventually lead to the establishment of a major. The program provides courses at all levels, film courses, bridge-courses (Italian associated to other disciplines, such as art, opera, history, economics, politics, social sciences, fashion etc). Literature in translation and cultural studies will soon be part of the program. In addition, students will benefit from the Italian resources available in the World Studies Media Center. The Summer Study Abroad Program in Perugia, Assisi, and Florence is a continuing success, and we are establishing connections to other Italian cities, for a semester or for a full year of study. The partnership VCU - University of Messina allows VCU students with advanced knowledge of Italian to attend classes in any field of knowledge at the University of Messina. Students’ needs play a crucial role for the definition of the Italian curriculum. Being a relatively small section, we cherish our students, and tend to deal with them more personally than customary in a big State School. We invite you to contact us to discuss your needs and preferences; we are eager to advise you on the advantages of studying Italian for your academic and professional life. Our faculty, the majority native speakers, have acquired a reputation for friendliness and competence. We encourage you to attend our courses and welcome your advice to improve the program. We invite you also to consider the possibility of independent studies. The VCU Italian Program wishes you a fruitful academic career. Yours, Bernardo Piciché Dr Bernardo Piciché |
