Snow White, Scene I It was wintertime when a queen pricked her finger while sewing. Three drops of blood fell upon the ground, white with snow. She gave birth to a daughter, white as snow, red as blood, and hair black as ebony. After the queen died, the king took another beautiful wife who consulted with her mirror as to who was the most beautiful in the land. As Snow White grew more beautiful with age, the Mirror’s response soon became that Snow White was prettier than the queen. The queen sent a huntsman to kill the girl; however, he was unable to be so cruel to Snow White, and he told her to run away. The huntsman took the organs of a bear, instead of the girl, back to the queen. |
