Scene 1: Japanese Academy (click here for video)

It was wintertime when a queen pricked her finger while sewing. Three drops of blood fell upon the ground, white with snow. She gave birth to a daughter, white as snow, red as blood, and hair black as ebony. After the queen died, the king took another beautiful wife who consulted with her mirror as to who was the most beautiful in the land. As Snow White grew more beautiful with age, the Mirror’s response soon became that Snow White was prettier than the queen. The queen sent a huntsman to kill the girl; however, he was unable to be so cruel to Snow White, and he told her to run away. The huntsman took the organs of a bear, instead of the girl, back to the queen.

Snow White ran though the woods as far as she could; as night fell, she came to a little cottage. She went inside and saw that there were seven of everything. She ate and drank from each table setting and, exhausted, found a bed to to sleep in that fit her. The owners of the cottage, seven dwarves, returned from work to find their belongings out of order. Once they found Snow White sleeping, they let her be. In the morning, Snow White recounted her journey. The dwarves allowed her to stay with them as long as she was willing to keep the cottage tidy. The dwarves warned her not to let anybody in the house.

The queen again asked her mirror who was the fairest, expecting that the response be she, since she had consumed the organs of the girl. Alas, the mirror said that Snow White was the fairest. The queen devised a plan to appear as an old woman selling laces and silks. When Snow White allowed the old woman to lace her up, the queen laced the bodice so quickly and tightly that Snow White lost her breath and fell to the ground. The dwarves returned to find Snow White on the ground. They cut off the laces, and she began to breath again. The dwarves warned her not to let anybody in while she was alone. The queen returned to her mirror, requesting the answer to who was the fairest; to this the mirror responded, Snow White.

Scene IV: Latin Academy (video unavailable)

The queen worked to come up with another plan to kill Snow White. This time she made a poisoned comb to sell the girl. Again Snow White was convinced to let the woman in and sell her the comb. The queen combed Snow White’s hair and immediately the girl fell to the ground. Fortunately the dwarves returned home and removed the comb. Snow White came to life again; the dwarves warned her to open the door to no one. The queen asked her mirror who was the fairest now, to which the mirror resounded: Snow White.

Scene V: Russian Academy(click here for video)

The evil queen consulted her mirror, which again confirmed that Snow White was the loveliest woman in the land. In another attempt to rid herself of her rival, the queen donned a disguise, went to the dwarves’ house, and tempted Snow White with a beautiful, but poisonous apple. As soon as Snow White bit into the apple, she collapsed. The queen returned to her castle, where the mirror told her that she was now the most beautiful woman in all the land.

Scene VI: German Academy(click here for video)

The dwarves returned home to find the dead girl. They searched for what may have caused the death, but, finding nothing, laid her to rest and mourned. They put her in a glass coffin so she could be seen, and one of the seven always stayed to watch over her. A king’s son came upon the dwarves and the coffin and asked to have Snow White. As the man carried the coffin back to his kingdom, the piece of apple dislodged from Snow White’s throat, and again she revived. The king’s son was so happy that he made her his wife. The queen dressed herself for the wedding and consulted the mirror on who was the fairest. When she heard the mirror say that the young queen was fairer by far, the queen went to the wedding to find peace. Iron slippers were brought from the fire for the old queen, and she was forced to wear them and dance until she dropped down dead.
