American Studies Summer Internship

          Each summer, VCU welcomes students from partnering universities in China to participate in the American Studies program.  VCU interns will be the initial introduction to VCU and the US for the visiting students.
                                   
Intern Responsibilities:

  • Welcome students as they arrive.
  • Participate in campus and Richmond tours.
  • Discuss issues of culture shock and adjustment to new systems of learning and living.
  • Assist students with library and computer databases for their research papers.
  • Attend some lectures with the students serving as classroom monitors and participants.
  • Attend field trips and pre-departure meetings.
  • Plan and coordinate evening and weekend activities.
  • Create a final presentation for the farewell dinner.
  • Accompany students on various trips:  Interns will spend two nights in VA Beach, three nights in New York City and two nights in Washington, D.C.

Language/Skill Requirements:

    • None
    • Interns must have reliable transportation.

Hours & Pay:            

    • Program lasts approximately 6 weeks.  Hours vary depending on activity.
    • Volunteer.  Note:  The interns’ travel and accommodation expenses will be paid for by the Education Abroad office; however, interns will be responsible for most meals and miscellaneous expenses.
