IHC is a non-profit organization that links pediatric diagnostic and surgical resources to children in the developing world. Currently, IHC has six partner countries: Guatemala, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Belize and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. IHC sends medical mission teams to these countries and brings the most critical cases to Richmond to have surgery in one of our partner hospitals.
Intern Responsibilities:
IHC interns perform direct fieldwork with the families that travel to Richmond for their child’s treatment and also work administratively in the office alongside the IHC staff. Interns manage many of the medical and non-medical needs of the families including: accompanying them to medical appointments, interpreting if necessary, visiting them in the hospital, taking them on errands, and delivering necessary items to their housing. In the office, interns help prepare for families’ arrivals and departures, assist in the planning of medical mission trips and contribute to the development aspect of the organization. IHC interns are able to learn the logistics of an international non-governmental organization while also working directly with families from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Language/Skill Requirements:
- Spanish fluency is required.
- Intern must have a car that they are willing to use to transport clients.
Hours & Pay:
- 7-10 hours a week
- Volunteer Opportunity
Application Process:
- Please contact Ms. Faig by email.
- Interns must complete an application and submit a resume. The intern schedule for the following semester is finalized 3-4 weeks before the end of the current semester. Therefore, interested applicants should email me 6-8 weeks before the end of the current semester.
