            Refugee and Immigration Services resettles refugees and assists immigrants, empowering them to build new lives in welcoming communities.  RIS provides comprehensive resettlement services, including: Orientation in U.S. laws, customs, and institutions, intensive case management to insure all initial needs are met, early employment placement assistance, English language instruction (ESL), School liaison services, prevention services for refugee youth and families.  RIS is highly dependent on volunteers who tutor, mentor, help find jobs, provide transportation, and act as interpreters.
           
Intern Responsibilities:
Interns may mentor by visiting families, taking the shopping, and orienting them to their apartment and the Richmond area.  They may provide ESL tutoring to our refugees as well as homework tutoring for our refugee youth.  They may also assist our employment specialist by taking refugees to fill out employment applications, teaching them the bus system, or helping them prepare for interviews.

Language/Skill Requirements:

    • None

Hours & Pay:            

    • Hours vary.  Interns may work any time from 9:00 am until evening depending on their schedules.
    • Volunteer Opportunity.
