Dr. Jérôme Jean Michel Cornette, originally from Paris, France, passed away April 23rd at his Richmond home.
Dr. Cornette
was admired by students and faculty alike and he will be sorely missed at VCU.
He is survived by his father Roger Cornette and sister Sophie Cornette, both of Paris, France.
He taught at Reed College and the University of Utah prior to joining VCU in 2005. His two main areas of expertise were
modern French literature and film studies. His teaching interests also included French cultural and intellectual history, the reception of
French classicism, Proust, contemporary French literature, Francophone literature and culture from Africa and the Caribbean, critical theory,
and transnational studies.
Dr. Cornette published several articles in journals on both sides of the Atlantic, including Critique and Sites. He also lectured in
the Ivory Coast and Japan.
Dr. Cornette
was 39 years of age. |
