Opera and Dante’s Divine Comedy sparked Melissa Johnston’s interest in Italian. She lived in the Piemonte and Liguria regions of Italy for a year and a half, then continued studying Italian at Brigham Young University, where she earned a BA in Humanities. She has taught Italian since 2002, when she joined the faculty of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond. Since then, Melissa has also earned a M Ed in Reading from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is interested in applying proven literacy learning practices to foreign language learning. Melissa is a member of the American Association of Teachers of Italian and of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
