I am Haishan Lai. I live in Richmond Virginia. I was born in China. I received my first degree in China 1985. It is a Bachelor's Degree in Chinese Language and Literature. I have worked at a university for nine years. I came to America with my son eleven years ago when my husband was studying for his PhD at Virginia Commonwealth University. When my daughter was two years old, I started to try to do different jobs. In 1999, one of my friends suggested me to be a substitute teacher for public schools, so I did and I found out that I love teaching very much. So I went to college to study English in year 2000 at VCU, a year later, the Department of Art Education accepted me and I started to study for Bachelor degree. I finished all courses last summer and I got my diploma. At the time I started studying, I obtained the job at VCU to teach Chinese. During this time of teaching, I found out that the more I taught the more I had a desire to learn about instructional methods. That is why I applied to a master degree of education. I hope this learning experience will help me to improve my teaching skills and help my students to learn better.
