Professor Mark D. Wood is jointly appointed in Religious Studies and African American Studies. He teaches courses in the history of religions in the Americas and courses that explore the relationships between world religious traditions, globalization, ecology, and human rights. His research work on race, class, religion, and philosophy includes his book, Cornel West and the Politics of Prophetic Pragmatism (University of Illinois Press : Champagne , Illinois : 2000). He has also written on the ethics of education and the importance of education for democratic globalization. Professor Wood has been actively involved in promoting a mode of pedagogy that combines classroom study with engagement in local and global movements for environmental protection, social justice, and human rights.
