The science-religion nexus is a major undertone in so many of todays news and events. Check this page often for current events and news updates.
Faculty from the Philosophy Department, Center for the Life Sciences,
and Massey Cancer Center were awarded an internal grant from the Office
of the President and the College of Humanities and Sciences for their
proposed series for next year, “Science, Reason and Faith.” This series
will include nationally and internationally recognized experts
presenting talks and debates. The goals include enriching how we think
about Religious diversity; elevating the quality of public discourse
about faith and reason; educating us about epistemology (how we know
what we know); and exploring topics such as the impact of genomics and
the life sciences on society. More information will be available shortly.
Our colleague Dr. Kristin Swenson, faculty member in Religious studies at
VCU, had her book, “Living through pain: Psalms and the search for
wholeness” published by Baylor University Press.
Johns Hopkins University is hosting a three-day conference called “What does
it mean to be human? [pdf] A public discourse on genetics, ethics and
spirituality.” Register by May 8. Conference Hotel registration
deadline is April 17.
VCU conducts lastest nationwide survey on life science issues including stem-cell research and teaching about origins of life.
At the 2005 conference of the Metanexus Institute "Science and Religion: Global Perspective," Mark Wood presented his paper "The Science and Religion Dialogue: At the Heart of Humanistic Education and Global Develpment." [pdf]
