Evolution and God

Two prominent philosophers debate one of today’s most contentious issues.

A debate featuring Alex Rosenberg, R. Taylor Cole professor of philosophy at Duke University, and Peter van Inwagen, John Cardinal O’Hara professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.

Date: Thursday, March 22, 2007
Time: 7 p.m.
New location: School of Business Auditorium, 1015 Floyd Ave.

Please note that tickets are NOT required for this event.

As a fitting finale for the series, we return to issues at the intersection of science and faith. In particular, we reconsider belief in God and the theory of evolution. Are belief in God and the theory of evolution in conflict? Does the theory of evolution make belief in God irrational or superfluous? Are there any reasons — philosophical or theological or empirical — for questioning the theory of evolution? Peter van Inwagen and Alexander Rosenberg — two leading and well-respected contemporary philosophers — will take up such questions in a debate that promises to be lively and informative.
